Ethnic Ministires
The mission statement of the Shrine of Our Lady of South Carolina, Our Lady of Joyful Hope, follows the directives given by the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.
During Baker’s tenure the diocese experienced a significant growth in the number of Catholics. Baker responded with the founding of at least three parishes and increased attention to ethnic ministries; including Vietnamese, Hispanic, and black Catholics.
