After years of devastation, a road to recovery was needed within the diocese. To aid in their endeavors, Bishops Northrop, W. Russell, and Walsh worked determinedly to expand Catholic hospitals, schools, lay organizations, and religious in the state. The extensive growth of Catholics in South Carolina gives testament to their success.
